As fresh as April
Okay, I know I said this was going to be about the looks and not the content (just like life!), so while there’s little of note in the layout (except a nicely disciplined grid), this is just too ridiculous to pass up.
It’s no wonder Spuds went the way of the mimeograph, with ads as self-deprecating as this. What agency came up with this – “They’re as disgusting as fungus, but choke enough down and you’ll eventually get used to the horror.”
I’m still trying to wrap my head around that “pretty much:” such a modern-seeming locution, stuck in a headline from the thirties. Spudses, you’re freaking me out.
