Fuck it!

Fuck it!

First, buy a shirt (or eleven!), then come back here and read the fascinating, fascinating story.

It’s tough not to sound like a complete blowhard when talking about inspiration, but I was discussing this piece of script with a friend of mine and that’s sort of what it came down to: inspiration. I haven’t done a Spencerian piece since school, and I don’t really have any reason to do it now (the few shekels to be had from T-shirt design is certainly not reason enough). But it came about from some close study that I’ve been doing in conjunction with a print project, on these architects who bridged Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, and Modernism. There is something both freeing and constricting about modernism, and I think I was in a cycle of suffocation in thinking about it. None of this was conscious, though. It just happened, and in thinking about it later, I made the connection (which may or may not be completely dubious – who knows?). Perhaps that’s the idea, though – that you have to take in all kinds of stuff because you never know which bit of stuff will end up being the seed of an idea.

Or maybe everything is random. Who knows.
